Student and Student Guardian Visa Financial Capacity Specifications
All subclass 500 student and subclass 590 student guardian applicants must declare in their applications that they have financial capacity to support themselves while in Australia.
Depending on certain factors such as country of origin (non streamlined applicants), the applicant may be required to give evidence of that financial capacity.
The information below details the current regulations regarding what evidence will be required: Either Option A or Option B
OPTION A: Money deposit in, or loan from a financial institution OR government loan OR scholarship OR financial support evidencing a value of: | |

Student Guardian Visa Applicants (subclass 590): | |
travel expenses: | i.e. cost of return flight; plus |
annual living cost: | AUD 24,505 living costs covering first 12 months OR • if less than 12 months, the pro rata equivalent; plus |
annual living cost of nominating student: | AUD 24,505 living costs covering first 12 months OR • if less than 12 months, the pro rata equivalent; plus |
course fees: | up to an amount equivalent for 12 months of the nominating student's course of study. |
All Secondary Applicants: | |
travel expenses: | i.e. cost of return flights; plus |
annual living cost: | for spouse or de factor partner = AUD 8,574; AND each dependent child = AUD 3,670; AND for each school-age dependant: = AUD 9,661.00** • if less than 12 months, the pro rata equivalent of the above amounts ** if the child is enrolled at a government school where fees are waived, and Primary Applicant is a Foreign Affairs student, or Defence student, or Commonwealth sponsored student; OR enrolled in a doctoral degree course, the amount is NIL. |
OPTION B: Offical government documentation: | |

Secondary School Exchange; Foreign Affairs; and Defence Student Applicants only require the evidence listed below:
Secondary School Exchange Students: the primary applicant’s completed AASES form.
Foreign Affairs Students: a letter of support from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and if there are secondary applicants the letter of support includes each secondary applicant.
Defence Students: a letter of support from the Department of Defence. and if there are secondary applicants the letter of support includes each secondary applicant.
