What is TSMIT? (Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold)
The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold is the minimum salary an employer must pay a sponsored worker under certain Australian visas, including subclass 482, 186, and 494.
Current TSMIT Threshold (2025) = $76,515.00
The Department of Home Affairs has indicated that the TSMIT is expected to increase to approximately $79,499 by July 2026.
All nominations for these visas must evidence offered guaranteed annual earnings of $76,515 or above.
The TSMIT also applies to the Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) subclass 186 visas.
There are exceptions /concessions that may apply under industry; company specific; or DAMA labour agreements depending on the agreement and specified occupation.
The TSMIT includes base salary and certain guaranteed earnings, but does not include bonuses or non-guaranteed payments. It can also include certain non-monetary benefits, however any determination as to what strictly constitutes guaranteed annual earnings are ultimately guided by provisions in Australia’s Fair Work legislation.
The TSMIT ensures that sponsored workers are paid fairly and are not undercutting the Australian labour market. Employers must meet both the TSMIT and the market salary rate when sponsoring a worker.
